About San Antonio International Airport arrivals

San Antonio International Airport is a major international airport in the Texas city of San Antonio. It handles thousands of domestic commercial San Antonio arrivals and a few international commercial flights every year. In 2019, SAT served more than 10 million passengers and 2020 about 4 million passengers. This drop of San Antonio flight arrivals will hopefully jump back up in 2021.

Location of San Antonio Airport

It’s located about 8 miles north of downtown San Antonio in Uptown Central San Antonio. It spans 2,305 acres and has three runways. It stands at an altitude of 809 feet above sea level. SAT averages 260 daily departures and San Antonio airport schedule arrivals at its 24 gates, serving 12 flights non-stop to 53 destinations in the United States and Mexico.

Serving airlines

Airlines with SAT flight arrivals are:

  • Aeromexico
  • Alaska Airlines
  • Allianz Air
  • American Airlines / Eagle
  • Delta Airlines and Connection
  • Border Airlines
  • Southwest Airlines
  • Viva Aerobus
  • Volaris

Aside from those airlines that serve passengers, the airport also sees several US military planes and cargo carriers.

Ameriflight, FedEx, and UPS Airlines are only a few examples of San Antonio airport arrivals with cargo. The DC-10 and 707 tankers can also be seen coming and going from time to time.

Most popular destinations:

There are not many international flight routes. Some of them are cargo and others are passenger flight usually to Mexico to destinations like:

San Antonio Airport terminals and facilities

Terminal A and Terminal B are the two terminals for SAT arrivals. The concourses between the two terminals are well-connected. At the airport, travelers can find a variety of facilities such as restaurants, food concessions, ATM’s, lounges, a business conference center, and more.

The Federal Inspection Station is in charge of international San Antonio arrivals. The station also assists the US Department of Homeland Security and the US Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service with their operations.

Transfer between terminals

While both terminals are in the same building, check-in counters and security controls are different. A free shuttle bus runs between the parking lots and both Terminal A and Terminal B.

Getting to and from San Antonio Airport
  • The most convenient option is to take a 12-mile taxi ride downtown for $25-$29 and 15-20 minutes to arrive on time at the terminal for San Antonio flight arrivals.
  • VIA Metropolitan Transit bus is the cheapest option. $1.10 for Route #5 to downtown. Time to travel: 30 minutes.
  • Car rental: to rent a car you will have to walk to the Car Rental Facility. You do that by being in Terminal B from Mezzanine Level and crossing the Sky Bridge. You will then be able to rent a car from a dozen number of car rental agencies.

To Riverwalk: The route takes about 14 minutes and is 9-10 miles. Enter US-281 S from S Terminal Dr and Dee Howard Way for 5 min and 1.3 miles. Continue on US-281 S to E Commerce St. Take exit 141A from I-37 S in 8 min and 7.8 miles. Continue on E Commerce St. Drive to Losoya St

Parking

Drop off and Pick up: There is a Cell Phone Waiting Lot at 410/Airport Blvd where you can temporarily park for free. This is useful if you are too early for an airport pick up. You are not allowed to park at the curbside, but only temporarily to let passengers get in and out.

There are mainly 3 parking options; these are short term, long term and economy parking.

  • Short Term Parking: this parking option is located just in front of terminal A. This is the same place as the Rental Car Return. The first 15 minutes are free. After that you pay about $5 per hour with a maximum rate of $27 per day.
  • Long Term Parking Garage and Lot: this is the blue part and just a little further walk to the terminal. However, it is also cheaper with a maximum daily rate of $16.00.
  • Economy Parking Green and Red Lot: these areas are just a little further away. Fortunately, you don’t have to walk to the terminal. A free shuttle service is offered from the car park to the terminal. Per day pay a maximum daily rate of $8.00 and a weekly rate of $56.00.

SAT airport arrival

Before carrying on, you must clear customs and immigration when you have SAT flight arrivals at the airport.

If you checked a bag, you must exit the secure area to get it to your final destination. After all of the luggage has been unloaded, the airline normally locks up any items that have not been claimed.

Sleeping in San Antonio Airport

All passengers are restricted to the land-side areas after security checkpoints close for the night and must re-clear security the next day when the checkpoints reopen. On the ground, comfortable, armrest-free sitting is uncommon, though there are supposedly a few nice, armrest-free couches at baggage claim’s far end.

If not, be prepared to sleep on the floor if you plan to stay the night, so pack a travel mat and/or sleeping bag. Bring earplugs or noise-canceling headphones as well, as the public address system is said to be particularly irritating. There are hotels near the airport that offer uninterrupted sleep.
