Newcastle international airport is located on the outskirts of Newcastle upon Tyne in northeast England. It is the 11th busiest airport in the UK handling 5 million passengers in the year 2019 (with a drop of Newcastle arrivals after because of the pandemic) but in 2023 a significant increase. But passengers number declined for 4 year till 2010 but later that passengers number again reached at 5.3 million in 2018. In 2019 total passengers are 5.1 million but in 2020 during the Covid-19 period, these numbers again declined with 80% less Newcastle Airport arrivals.

Ground transportation Newcastle Airport

Directions:

  • To city centre: Continue onto the A696. Take the 2nd exit at Newcastle Airport Roundabout onto the A696. Continue onto the A167(M) into Newcastle city centre.
Bus

There are several options for traveling by bus. Departures for example to Eldon Square and Ponteland but also Oakwood, Darras Hall and Kingston Park.

Metro

Travel quickly with the Metro to many possible stations in the city and around it. For example, to the center you can easily and quickly go to Haymarket or Monument. The journey will take approximately 25 minutes with departures every 12 minutes. You can also travel to Sunderland by Metro. The travel time for this will take about an hour. Train

Travel easily by train from the airport. There is a connection with the North East rail network. If you want to travel to the center of the city, it takes about 25 minutes (arrival at Central Station). Arrivals can take place from 6:00 am to 0:00 am. There will be a train every 12 minutes. Once you have arrived at Central Station, you can easily continue your journey with the Metro. Many other destinations are also possible. You can travel by train to, for example, Durham, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds, Glasgow, and Middlesbrough.

Taxi

There is an on-site taxi service at the airport. After your arrival you can collect your luggage and walk out of the terminal to immediately take a taxi from Arrow Cars. They have been assigned a special location for a pick up or drop off. Because they have many taxis available, you will not have to wait. The prices are fixed and can be paid by credit card.
