Istanbul’s new airport is located northwest of the city. The ultramodern new airport can transport up to 200 million Istanbul arrivals and departures. To do this, the airport uses 5 long runways to land the largest aircraft in the world. Turkish Airlines has the most Istanbul Airport departures to many destinations around the world. In its first (not full) year, it carried 52,578,008 passengers. In 2018, there were already 68,192,683 passengers at Ataturk and that would certainly have been exceeded if the corona virus had not struck.

Istanbul Airport has a departures level (Giden yolcu katı) and an Istanbul flight arrivals level (Gelen yolcu katı). The departure hall of Istanbul Airport is accessible through seven entrances, 1 and 2 for domestic flights (İç Hatlar, see green section), and 3 to 7 for international flights (Dış Hatlar). If you are driving by car use the right hand side to go to the Istanbul Airport Arrivals hall which is located on floor D. There is the baggage claim area.

After arrival you walk from the airport to one of the concourses towards the ISL arrivals hall through the passport control. Grab your luggage and walk out of the terminal. You can choose to travel with the subway. This new connection ensures that you are in the center of Istanbul (Sultanahmet) in 30 minutes. There are also several bus lines to travel to the city after arrival. These often run 24/7 and are usually the cheapest option. There are actually every half hour Istanbul arrivals with different bus lines. If you want to travel privately, you can choose to take a private airport transfer, hotel shuttle or taxi. Hotel shuttles are free in some cases. If you travel by taxi, it costs about USD 35 to the center. Another option if you want to travel mobile is to rent a car. After Istanbul Airport arrivals hall, there are numerous options for renting a car from the major well-known companies such as Hertz, Europcar, Avis and Budget, but also from Avec Car Rentel, Dokay, Garenta, Luks and Ülger Rent a Car.

If you have a really early arrival and want to stay at the airport you can also choose to stay at the YOTEL Istanbul Airport Hotel which is located at the departures area.
