Istanbul Airport (İstanbul Havalimanı) is Istanbul’s largest airport and is located in the European part of the city. The new airport took over the old Istanbul Atatürk airport in April 2019. Istanbul’s new airport is located northwest of the city. The ultramodern new airport can transport up to 200 million Istanbul arrivals and departures. To do this, the airport uses 5 long runways to land the largest aircraft in the world. Turkish Airlines has the most Istanbul Airport departures to many destinations around the world. In its first (not full) year, it carried 52,578,008 passengers. In 2018, there were already 68,192,683 passengers at Ataturk and that would certainly have been exceeded if the corona virus had not struck.
Istanbul Airport has a departure level (Giden yolcu katı) and an arrival level (Gelen yolcu katı). The departure hall of Istanbul Airport is accessible through seven entrances, 1 and 2 for domestic flights (İç Hatlar, see green section), and 3 to 7 for international flights (Dış Hatlar). If you are driving by car use the right hand side to go to the Istanbul Airport Arrivals hall which is located on floor D. There is the baggage claim area.
