Phuket International Airport departures
Phuket International Airport is a popular airport in Thailand due to its good beach location. Depending on which city you want to be from this airport you will have to travel about 20-30 miles to Phuket Town, Karon or Kata. Count on 45-60 minutes by taxi at 800-1000 THB. Travelling by bus is also an option but it takes considerably longer time.
The airport is an important gateway for tourists who want to enjoy the beautiful beaches, environment and nightlife. Every year there are even more international flights with passengers than domestic flights. In recent years before the pandemic, there were 18 million passengers using Phuket Airport. Many flights come from the Asia region but Australia and Europe as well. Some destinations have been suspended due to the pandemic, while others continued to fly. For example, there are temporarily no flights from China. Domestic flights mainly go to the airport near Bangkok: Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang. Other options are Hat Yai, Koh Samui, Chiang Rai, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, and Rayong Pattaya U-Tapao. All domestic Phuket departures will take place in terminal 3.
For international Phuket airport departures you will need to check in and board in terminal 2. There are many regular flights year round and seasonal options as well. Check out the busiest ones of each region:
- Asia: Kuala Lumpur, Singapore Changi, Hong Kong, Bangaluru, Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji, Kolkata, and Delhi Indira Gandhi.
- Middle East: Doha, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Tel Aviv.

- Europe: Istanbul, Helsinki Vantaa, Stockholm Arlanda, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Paris CdG, London Heathrow, and London Gatwick.

About 90 percent of all flights have Phuket flight departures to Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang International Airport). Often the international airport is used as a hub when there are no direct flights to Phuket. Most other domestic Phuket departures go to Chiang Mai, Samui or Rayong / Pattaya. The older but renovated terminal 3 is used for this. Then there is also a terminal 2 which is used for charter flights.
