Murcia international airport arrivals
The airport located in the Murcia region, one of seventeen autonomous regions in Spain. The location is well south of Murcia and north of the city of Cartagena, along the Autovía A-30. This highway connects Cartagena, Albacete and also Murcia with each other. There are some famous beaches in the area as well. The Murcia airport arrivals take place on a single runway and a modern terminal. This terminal started with Murcia flight arrivals on January 15, 2019. The airport is also known as Corvera Airport.
The airport has replaced the old Murcia-San Javier Airport which is now in use as a military base. The transfer from San Javier to Corvera took quite some time. Some of the locals think the new airport has been a waste of money and prefer the old San Javier Airport could have remained for longer. There are some Proponents too of course. They are happy that the Murcia arrivals no longer land near the beautiful beaches on the Costa Cálida.
Transportation to/from Murcia Corvera Airport
After Corvera arrivals you are able to rent a rental car for the Región de Murcia. There are quite some options at the arrivals hall from small cheaper cars to luxurious ones.
The center of Murcia (Plaza de Santo Domingo) is about 30 minutes driving from the airport. The center of Cartegena (Teatro Romano de Cartagena) is slightly longer with a 35-minute drive.
Airlines and destinations at Murcia Airport
Most Murcia flight arrivals are seasonal flights from the north of Europe but there are also domestic flights. Flights or routes have also been canceled due to the corona crisis. The Corvera airport arrivals are also frequent charter flights. Airlines that regularly have Murcia airport arrivals at the new airport are:
- Binter Canarias to Gran Canaria
- Easyjet to London-Gatwick and Bristol
- Jet2 to Birmingham, Leeds / Bradford, Manchester
- Norwegian Air to Bergen, Oslo-Gardermoen, Stavanger, Trondheim
- Ryanair to Birmingham, Bournemouth, Glasgow-Prestick, Manchester and to it’s Spanish base Palma de Mallorca
In the first year (2019), 1.1 million passengers used the airport. In the second year there was a significant decrease to just a few hundred thousand passengers. Hopefully, the pandemic will blow over for the airport in 2021 to attract many tourists to the airport again.
