About

Islamabad Airport started operations in May 2018 with the first Islamabad departures. It was the perfect replacement for the Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Pakistan. This airport can accommodate more than 9 million people in a year and can easily expand ISB airport departures. Within the airport zone, you can find many technologies, wonderful commercials, and of course connecting flights to other regions in or around the country.

Location

The airport is very close to the metropolitan area between the twin cities Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The airport is less than 20 kilometers to the west of these cities in Pakistan to be geographically located. You can get in and out of the airport with ease using the main Kashmir highway.

Transportation at Islamabad Airport

The only way you can enter or exit Islamabad International Airport is via the Kashmir Highway. The highway is also undergoing renovations where a fourth lane will be placed to speed up traffic so you won’t be late for your Islamabad flight departures. You can avoid taking the highway during rush hours to avoid traffic delays.

You can also get to the airport using the Srinagar Hwy, GT Road or number 5 highway that runs through the entire city of Islamabad. Take the metro bus service from Islamabad if you don’t have a car to get to the airport. The metro bus will take you very close to the airport, for the next few years a terminal will be inaugurated there.

Runways

Islamabad Airport has two runways. There are also aprons, aerial parking areas, and taxiways are located for Islamabad airport departures. Near the runways, there is air traffic control, cargo terminals, and a fuel farm.

Terminals at Islamabad Airport

The air terminal in Islamabad comprises a single 180,000 square meter building that can accommodate 9 million passengers. By 2024 the number may increase to 25 million passengers because the airport will expand and try to increase the IBS departures.

As it is a new air terminal in Pakistan, you can find large commercial stores, a hotel, duty-free shops, etc. You will be able to enjoy a large shopping center, food areas, cinema and leisure facilities. Your stay inside the airport will be incredible because you will have many things to do before Islamabad departures take place.

Process
  • You should arrive at the airport via Car Park or Level 3 Departures Gate. For both a domestic or international departure, you go through the ASF Check and baggage screening at the entrance. Then you go through Customs & Clearance to the airline check-in area. If you have a domestic departure, you go directly to the departure lounge after check-in. For an international departure, you first go through the immigration process before you arrive at the departure lounge. You will then be able to board and depart by plane.
