Rotterdam, The Hague Airport, is a minor international airport serving the city of The Hague and Rotterdam. It is located 5.6 km (3.5 miles) northeast of Rotterdam, a major port in the Dutch province of South Holland.
Before WWII, the city of Rotterdam had an airport called Waalhaven, but it was destroyed to prevent it from being used by the Germans. After the conflict, the Dutch government decided that another airport was necessary and sought a new air terminal with Rotterdam airport arrivals.
The construction of this airport began in 1955, and in 1956 the airport was inaugurated for Rotterdam flight arrivals.
