Kuching International Airport (KIA) serves the southwestern Sarawak region of Malaysia. It is the gateway to Sarawak, Sabah, and Brunei; it can handle 5 million passengers in a year and the KIA departures keep increasing. It is the busiest air terminal in Malaysia after Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Penang Airport, and KLIA.
Kuching International Airport is located 11 km (6.8 miles) south of downtown Kuching. This airport has been able to cope with the high demand of Kuching departures to the eastern Malaysian region.
It was built in the late 1940s by the then British Sarawak government. It was inaugurated in 1950 for Kuching flight departures and used as an airbase for the Royal Malaysian Air Force. It has undergone a radical change with its remodeling in 2006 and 2008; this increased the surface of the building to 46,000 square meters which let to more KCH airport departures.
- Kuching airport departures by bus: Kuching International Airport does not have city buses available at the airport. The closest bus station is Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal; it is the choice for passengers on a budget. It is located about 2 km west of the airport. This is a regional bus terminal with three floors, air conditioning and has provided its services since 2012.

Kuching International Airport has a single terminal for the Kuching flight departures equipped with the necessary services to accommodate 5 million passengers per year. In 2006 the new terminal of this airport was inaugurated for KCH airport departures, which operates several national and international flights.
It has an information and customer service desk so that passengers can make any queries. There are also shops to buy souvenirs, cafes, restaurants, immigration and customs department, transport services, restrooms, clothing stores, etc.
