Airport: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport
IATA code: CCU
ICAO code: VECC
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport is located in the North East of India and only 10 miles from the city center. It is close to the Bangladesh border. Due to the rapid increase in passengers, a new terminal was built in 2010 to grow from 10 to 25 million passengers per year. So many Kolkata airport departures and arrivals have been added in recent years that a new extra terminal has to be built. It is expected to be ready in 2023 so that it can grow to 40 million (and optionally to 45 million with a third terminal).
All CCU departures go through the 2 available runways of 10,500 and 11,900 feet long. This means that larger planes can also land at Kolkata airport. Most Kolkata departures are domestic and handled by low cost airlines. The CCU airport departures most frequently on the runway is IndiGo followed by Air India, Spicejet, AirAsia and Alliance Air. International flights are rare and the most popular routes are to Bangkok, Colombo, Singapore, Doha, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur. There were 165,761 Kolkata Airport departures and arrivals in 2019. All these flights carried 22 million passengers.
