Discover Thessaloniki International Airport departures

Thessaloniki International Airport is known as Macedonia, or simply Thessaloniki Airport. It is a major airport serving the Greek city of Thessaloniki. In 2019, the airport, officially known as Macedonia International Airport, served most Thessaloniki departures in the history. It handled 6,950,726 passengers and 45,900 aircraft movements, making it Greece’s second busiest airport in terms of flights and third busiest in terms of passengers carried. Since the pandemic there have been a significant decrease of SKG airport departures in 2020 and 2021.

Airlines and destinations

The airline with the most Thessaloniki flight departures is clearly Aegean Airlines as a local airline. This carrier is followed by Ryanair, Easyjet, Jet2, Germanwings, Wizz Air, Olympic Air and a few others. Most flights are to domestic destinations:

To international destinations, Germany is clearly at the top with most Thessaloniki airport departures. The routes are mainly to Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf. Many of the routes are seasonal but some of them are year round as well. Check out some more international flight routes:

Check-in procedures Thessaloniki Airport

The airport has multiple check-in options for Thessaloniki departures. Both check-in options through the internet or mobile are available. Check-in can be done from 24 hours to 2 hours before Thessaloniki Makedonia departures time. In the online check-in process, a boarding pass can be printed and downloaded, and it reduces the time that the passenger spends in the queue at the airport. The Macedonia International Airport currently has 34 check-in counters situated on the first floor of the terminal. It is advised that passengers arrive at least 2.5 hours before the planned Thessaloniki flight departures time. Self-check-in counters are also available at the airport to save time,

Allowance for Baggage

The airport sets the baggage limit, and each airline has its own policy. Passengers can contact the airline they are flying with for more information about how much baggage they should bring with them. Passengers are permitted to carry 7 kg of hand luggage and check one bag weighing no more than 20 kg. The luggage allowance varies depending on the type of transport. People traveling in business or first class will have a higher baggage limit. If you have so much baggage, you will pay the penalty at the airport before Thessaloniki airport departures.

Seating

Seats are available at the airport on a first-come, first-served basis, so arrive early and order your preferred place during counter check-in. Seats are available for a limited time so you need to do that on time before SKG departures. If you want to get a particular seat, use the pre-selection option. Passengers can now book their preferred seat up to 24 hours before departure during online check-in, for a small fee.

Booking fee

Passengers are charged a processing fee any time they make an online booking. Passengers can also book their tickets without paying a fee at the airline counter at the airport. If you need to change or cancel your reservations, call the airline directly.

More detail on customs inspections before you arrive

In the baggage claim zones, there are customs stations for luggage. Please use the green customs-exit if you are coming from a member of the European Union (EU) or if the items you are carrying do not meet the permissible allowances.

If you have more than the allowed duty-free allowances or valuable products, you must report them. It also holds for items that are forbidden. Narcotics, firearms, ammunition, and endangered plant or animal organisms, components, or items manufactured from them are among them. Many endangered plant and animal species need stringent regulations to avoid extinction. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) establishes which plants and animals are prohibited from being transported through the plane. Violators are punished aggressively and are subjected to harsh sentences.
